Biking in Ubud and Seminyak

Dear Apri Yanto

Ubud is known for its hilly and picturesque landscape and Seminyak is more about weaving in and out of traffic and fashion minded folk. Each is equally worth choosing cardio over cab, and you can look good whilst doing it. Now, does touring around Ubud and Seminyak whilst getting a tan sound good to you?

Ubud's famous eco cycling tours are designed to take the visitors away from the downtown areas and to show them 'the real Bali'. These bike trips will take you up and down the hills on secret back roads and nondescript village paths, where you can see a typical daily life of a Balinese country side. The piece de resistance of these trips is reaching Penelokan in Kintamani, a spot overlooking Mount Batur and its crater lake - arguably the most stunning view in Bali. As you get to the plantations you will get to sample exotic tropical fruits and local herbs. Other unforgettable stops are at a village temple under an enormous Banyan tree set amongst an amazing rice field panorama, where around you the farmers are planting or harvesting rice.

A general map of Bali will give you an impression that Seminyak consists of only a number of streets like Raya Seminyak, Laksmana and Petitinget. These streets are but only the main streets that run through this coastal town where you can find rows of shops, hotels and restaurants. Fact is in between these streets there is a maze of quaint narrow alleys impassable by cars, or by more than one car at a time. Many private villas are located in these alleys, one of which you may stay in. This is why it is actually nicer to roam around Seminyak on a bike. Traffic tends to be a little crazy on the main streets from early afternoon till early evening, which makes biking an even better choice when doing pit stops at shops.

So what are you waiting for, next time slap on some UVF protection, your sunglasses and a trendy outfit and explore more of Ubud and Seminyak with bike. Take some nice shots, post them in your profile page at burufly and and tell your friends and other Buruflyers about your experience.
